Well I just about pooped my pants last night when I got the email telling me I had won a place in the 5FINITY Second Annual High Five Awards as "Most Original Artist" !

I don't win many Awards, mostly due to not trying out for awards or contest, so winning an award based on Fan & Dealer choice without knowing I was even up for it, is PRETTY FREAKIN' AWESOME

Thanks to everyone voted and thanks to all the hot babes I had to draw to get this award and thanks to all the little people (muchkins, smurfs, wee folks, etc) I crushed along the way to get here.

  Lady Death Sketch Card Set for 5FINITY

I've been insanely busy the last few months with trying to get my Pirate Fairies of the 8th Sea comic finished for WonderCon and a zillion things in my personal life as well.

So I haven't posted as much new art and stuff as I should have here on the NCC Blog.  Well in an attempt to fix that a little bit I now present ... 

A sampler card from the Lady Death Sketch Card Set from 5FINITY Productions.  I'm not sure of the release date but you guys can look it up on the 5FINITY web site (June, July?)  And take a look at the artist list too, there's going to be some great cards given the people working on it.

Plus I can't tell you what a great thrill it was to have the creator of Lady Death, Brian Pulido personally look at and approve my cards for the set. 

A bit of a FANBOY moment on my part to be sure.

Japan Relief Fund Sketch Card Auction 

So a few days ago I posted this sketch card up for auction on Twitter and Facebook hopefully to raise some funds for a Japan Relief Donation.

I started the bids at $25.00, pretty reasonable for a hand drawn,  one-of-a-kind, signed and framed sketchcard I thought.

And while I was initially a bit disappointed in how few bids came in, in the end I'm happy to say it sold for the price of $50.00.

Oh, but the story doesn't end there.

I gave the money to one of my in-laws who works for a company that is also doing a fund raiser and they are matching all employee donations 2 for 1 !

So, that $50.00 is now $150.00 ! 

I sleep a little better tonight knowing I have done some small good in the World ... how about you?

Fund Raiser for Comic Book Legal Defense Fund

A fund raiser for CBLDF with a "Monsters" theme!?!

 Come on now, you just know I had to get in on that, right?  I mean, with the CBLDF calling "Any Artist" for a "Open Monster Theme" Donation, I figured here was my shot to put most everything I like in one sketch card ... Humor, Monsters, Hot Rods and Babes, Oh My !

Besides with the crap I draw there could come a day I'll have need the CBLDF to bail me out so some 4th dimensional neither-verse prison or another.   Hey, it never hurts to have a lawyer or two in you corner, right?

Anyway, as I understand it the donationed artworks will be available for purchase or auction at the 2010 APE (Alternative Press Expo) Oct 16 - 17 in San Francisco and at several other shows including New York ComicCon.

I'll be at APE too at table # 737 so look me up !

"Treasure Chests and Booty"

Sketch Cards for Bad Axe Studios

So I got in on the Treasure Chests and Booty sketch card set kind of late in the game as I didn't hear about it until it was already closing in fast on the deadline.

Fortunately for me with the subject being Pirate Girl Pin-ups I was pretty sure I could manage to knock out a dozen or so cards cards in pretty short order, so Axe Bone sent me some blanks and said "Have at it".

So with no real restrictions on what to draw and a subject I do a lot of (pin-up girls) I managed to do fifteen cards and mail them in before the deadline even with all the other stuff going on around here.

It was a fun set to work on and I'm happy with the overall results.

In fact it was quite hard to pick only three favorites that I'm allowed to do a preview with. 

OK, so here's what you really want to know........

The sets will go on a Pre-Sale the beginning of October and will only be available through Bad Axe Studios and their web sites www.badaxestudios.com or www.treasurechestsandbooty.com

The actual product will be ready to ship out the beginning of December...just in time for Christmas!

March of Dimes - 5Finity

"Female Persuasion" Sketch Cards

So this year I got to be part of 5Finity's sketch card set "The Female Persuasion", which is part of 5Finity's fund raiser for The March of Dimes.

As a long time Pin-up artist the "Female Persuasion" card set gave me a lot of opportunity to go fairly wild and draw an assortment of characters and styles.  I even went so far as to include a few real life models that I have ongoing relationships with.

One good example of this was the sketch card that I did portraying the lovely Natasha Yi (see first sample image) in a sexy cute "situation".

Both Natasha and I were excited to learn later that her card sold for $100 !

As near as I could tell my cards alone seemed to raise about $ 1000 dollars or so and word is the event was quite successful, raising over $ 33,000 dollars for March of Dimes.

I only have time to do a few charity events a year so it's nice to see those efforts rewarded, it makes me pretty happy to be involved in such a successful fundraiser.

I'd like to say thanks to everyone that was involved and to everyone that bought cards to support the March of Dimes!

Here's an early or late depending on how you want to look at it birthday present I did for my friend Natasha Yi and her comical little  dogs. 

Come to think of it, I'm not sure who's more comical, her or the dogs ... she's pretty funny sometimes.

SKETCH CARD Release Dates!

Ok, I finally have some info on the sketch cards I've been working on.

Some of the info is a little bit dated already, but it's still good and the cards can be found with a little detective work ... ironically I can't affored to buy myself any of the card sets I've been working on (sad huh).

Release Dates at a Glance :

July 15: 5FINITY JAM: Mixtape and Pulp Girls Sketch Card Series

September 1: The Female Persuasion starring Sabrina the Teenage Witch - Charity Sketch Card Edition

October 15: Hack/Slash Sketch Card Series

5FINITY JAM: Mixtape and Pulp Girls Sketch Card Series

As many of you know I have been working with 5finity Productions and a TON of talented artists on several limited edition Sketchcard sets.

The first set being PULP GIRLS created by Jason Martin and Jim Mahfood's Mix Tape.

5finity will be releasing the 600 sketch card Pulp Girls set on 7 / 15 / 2010 and the Mix Tape set should be around the same time.

Pulp Girls are subversive genre girls inspired by grindhouse cinema and pulp heroes and the set features dozens of great DA artists, all doing original art of the characters.

A 5finity card pack is equal to one original artist sketch card randomly inserted from the artist list on the set. The packs themselves retail for $24.95 msrp

Packs also include the following extras (for the Jam, 1200 card - two series, full set):

Pulp Girls & Mix Tape Sketch Cards

Just finished up on two new sets of original sketch cards 5finity Productions.

I did twelve cards for Jason Martin's Pulp Girls featuring characters by Jason Martin, The Boo and several other artist, plus I did thirteen cards for the Jim Mahfood Mix Tape set which was loads of fun.

These should be released sometime around July 15 th of 2010 and will be FAST sellers given the history of some of the other sketch card sets I've worked on.
